The Dog Song – Nellie McKay

I LOVE Nellie McKay. She’s a sweet-voiced gal with a total potty mouth. I stumbled upon her music quite by accident. I sampled some tracks of her first CD Get Away From Me at the listening station at Barnes & Noble. That was way back in 2004. Since then she’s put out a couple more CD’s and done some tracks for film. I have to say though her debut was perfect. Every track was great. I’m sucker for a song about dogs and I think this is the only song on the CD without expletives.

Louie on FX

I'm glad Loius C.K. is getting another shot at television. His previous HBO outing "Lucky Louie" failed to connect. I watched the first two episodes last week and I feel this is a show that can grow on you. Right now, the biggest problem is Louie's standup that is interspersed within the show. It's too damm funny! You feel reluctant to get back to the story because you're laughing so hard at his jokes! For a comedian, I guess it's a nice problem to have, however, the characters will need to be more endearing to make a go if this show. I'm pulling for it though!

I Love You Prince!

My children do not understand my undying love for Prince. I’m flabbergasted! The man is a musical genius! His songs play on the radio everyday. I hear him on the R&B station, Rock, Top 40, everywhere. For someone who appears to be so odd, Prince has coined a sound that fits into most musical genres.

It’s no surprise that BET would want to give him a Lifetime Achievement Award. For us fans it seems too soon – we can’t be that old- but I’m sorry to say, we’re at that time. The 80’s were a long time ago my friend. But I’m here to tell ya, Prince is still awesome.

I’m not familiar with the first artist taking the stage and her robotic gestures were quiet distracting. After that, the rest of this tribute is top-notch. Plus, Prince is wearing an outfit with a picture of Prince on it! This is what confuses my kids. Look, I’m the first to admit this is a strange little dude, but I’ve embraced his purple freakiness for three decades and I’m not about to stop now.

I'm a bad, bad person. I don't even watch Family Guy! Last week the teenager had it on and I was reading a book. I innocently looked up and then laughed the hardest I did all week. Why would I laugh at this? What is wrong with me? And why, oh why do I want to keep watching it?

Let's start July with a fireworks bang! I never tire of Harry Potter. Let's face it, I'd much rather watch the movies than read those monster size books. There's only two left to go' I'll be there!

SYTYCD - Brian Gaynor

I had a tough week ahead of me when I watched this. I also have scolosis but no where near what this guy faces on a daily basis! This is a lesson in how it's so easy to find someone facing a tougher world than you at any given time. I was telling my hubby about him because he didn't see his audition from a few years back. I was jumping up and down to see him again! Where his first audition was fun and entertaining, this was simply beautiful and inspiring. You go Brian!

Lost=Love

So in the end it came down to how much you love these characters. Do you want them to be happy? Do you want them to be at peace? Just like the end of any long-term relationship, you have to let it go. You’ll never have all your answers and you walk away with things you will always cherish and things that will forever piss you off.

I was happy with the end. I had to sit on it for awhile. I needed it to percolate and I had to work out questions in my head. It was okay for Jin to stay and die with Sun because they had no child. Claire wasn’t Jack’s sister. She was only his desperation for family. Slowly, I’ve worked most of it out for myself. I still don’t get Charles Widmore and why Daniel was there, but not really there. If anyone can shed light on this I’d appreciate it.

The one thing that I felt was emphatically answered was the fact that everyone died in the crash, or at least shortly thereafter. Funny though, this is what I keep hearing people talk about. Can I point out that Jack was in the exact same spot at the end of the show as he was at the beginning? The dude was alive for about 30 seconds. There are many things up for interpretation, but I don’t think that’s one of them.

For those that analyzed and dissected this show for six seasons, I can see how they might be disappointed. I had fun trying to figure what it all meant, but I didn’t use a lot of my free time doing it. These fans, I’m sure, we’re waiting for some type of Matrix mind blow.

In the end, I was the perfect Lost fan. I believe I embodied what the creators wanted. I let it wash over me. I asked questions, I pondered I queried, but only to a point. Like faith itself, at some point you have to give up trying to figure it all out and simply give yourself over to it.

To accept an ending that everyone pegged early on is tough. We all thought it would be something more. For this I look to mother of all shows, The Twilight Zone. What constantly set that show apart was its heart and humanity for the characters. Sure it had shock value galore, but what about episodes like, In Praise of Pip? You felt that one to your core and that’s how you felt Sunday night as they all touched each other and connected.

Yes, everyone died in the plane crash (they did), but we were able to glimpse into their souls and witness their redemptions. Isn’t that better than the island being run by aliens or that they were under a drugged hypnosis in Hurley’s Psych ward?

Thank you for the journey. Thank you for making me care and thank you for showing me that everyone has a chance, in the end, to be redeemed.

Here I am, Dharma beer in hand, waiting to watch it all end. Will it be worth it? I was never a wanning fan. I was there the whole time watching and waiting for answers. Don't disappoint me!

I’m glad that The Daily Show uses Lewis Black sparingly. I’m always afraid he’s going to have a heart attack! When he does come on though, it’s gold.

Thanks for pointing out Glen Beck’s loose use of Hitler and Nazis. These are not subject matters you should pull out of hat so easily. Then, how hypocritical can he be to blast someone else for doing it? And guess what? Jews did have to show papers if they were stopped on the street, so that analogy certainly rang more true than the ridiculous examples Beck displayed.

I can’t stop watching this clip. It’s bitingly funny and sadly true.
