A Life In Movies Blogathon
Here we go! Over at Fandango Groovers Movie Blog today is A Life In Movies Blogathon. Everyone participating will pick one movie from each year of their life. Since I'm old, it took me longer than some. I'm also in major spring cleaning mode at me house. I'm in the process of painting my son's room and going through ALL of his possesions. The house is in shambles and looks like an episode of Hoarders right now. Seriously, I don't understand how so much stuff could be in one room! So I'm sorry to say that I didn't spend as much time on this as I would've like, but I will enjoy my Mother's Day by visiting everyone's list. It's amazing to see a whole list laid out like this and I was very surprised by the years on some films. I hope you like my list, it's filled with the best of the best!
What a way to start. Movies were this cool when I was born?
1. To Sir With Love (1967)
And this scary?
2. Rosemary’s Baby (1968)
Goofy fun before Allen got more serious.
3. Take the Money and Run (1969)
Nothing is better than a little Lemmon.
4. The Out of Towners (1970)
You can't top this one.
5. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)
Okay, I've owned almost a dozen rats in my lifetime so I look more at the friendship in this film than scary killer rats! Plus awesome Michael Jackson song.
6. Ben (1972)
This always makes me cry and it's about a spider. I hate spiders!
7. Charlotte’s Web (1973)
How on earth did both of these come out the same year? Sorry I can't choose.
8. Blazing Saddles & Young Frankenstein (1974)
Do you know where ya going to?
9. Mahogany (1975)
Best Stephen King adaptation.
10. Carrie (1976)
Changed movies forever.
11. Star Wars (1977)
Funniest comedy of all time. Still can't be topped.
12. Animal House (1978)
The new phonebooks here! The new phonebooks here!
13. The Jerk (1979)
One of the best movie soundtracks ever.
14. The Blues Brothers (1980)
Saw this 43 times in the theater, can quote the entire film. This movie turned me into a bona-fide geek.
15. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
How Richard Gere manged to be the only one not to get and Oscar nod baffles me to this day.
16. An Officer and A Gentleman (1982)
Cry a lot, laugh a lot, discover John Lithgow
17. Terms of Endearment (1983)
Simply cool
18. Repo Man (1984)
Again, how did this film not win Best Picture? Seriously! How?
19. The Color Purple (1985)
Creepy, but in a fun way.
20. Blue Velvet (1986)
Strong women, complicated, messy and a joy to watch.
21. Broadcast News (1987)
Hot!
22. The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988)
Best Rom-Coms ever! If only they could be half as good as this one.
23. When Harry Met Sally & Say Anything (1989)
On paper this movie should not work, but it does.
24. Pretty Woman (1990)
Animation is back baby!
25. Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Too stupid, too good. No way? Way!
26. Wayne’s World (1992)
A true movie movie. Pure fun.
27. Jurassic Park (1993)
The first movie that I had to take a day to decide if I liked it. I did.
28. Pulp Fiction (1994)
This film taught me that computers could make a film with heart.
29. Toy Story (1995)
Some say boring, I say beautiful.
30. The English Patient (1996)
How could a movie work when you already know how it ends?
31. Titanic (1997)
Sweet
32. The Wedding Singer (1998)
This film seems so tame now, but not at the time.
33. American Beauty (1999)
Talk about carrying a film by yourself!
32. Castaway (2000)
Hot! Hot! Hot!
33. Sex and Lucia (2001)
I waited a long time for a Spiderman movie. It was worth the wait.
34. Spiderman (2002)
Who would think you could still make a classic Christmas movie?
35. Elf (2003)
So creative.
36. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Something different in a sea of sameness.
37. The Ballad of Jack and Rose (2005)
Visually stunning.
38. Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)
Giving Animal House a run for it's money.
39. Superbad (2007)
This totally deserved the Oscar.
40. Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
Wait! The Rom-Com isn't dead yet!
41. 500 Days of Summer (2009)
I just bought this on DVD and I look forward to watching it many, many times!
42. Black Swan (2010)
I hope you enjoyed the trip down my life in movies. Don't forget to go to the source and you'll find the links to many more fun posts. Enjoy!

Crap - I was happy to see that you said you were old....but then I realized I'm older than you! What - am I the oldest blogger??? LOL
Happy Mother's Day!
Yeay!! It is nice to find someone that had a long list like myself...all these young 'uns dont know how lucky they are!!
Great choices. Thanks for sharing
Great list Colleen i am so jealous of you seeing Star Wars in theater!!!
Great list, thanks for taking part. The great thing about the concept (by accident, not design) is that it is win-win on age. The older you are, the ore movies you get to pick, the younger, the easier job you have!
The way the images line-up with the text hasn’t done you any favours, it looks like you are calling The Unbearable Lightness of Being “Best Rom-Coms ever!”.
Nice list,I like looking at those posters.
I feel so happy to see Cast Away is also in your list. I haven''t seen most of the movies in your list, thanks for the reference.
Andy, I know! It's all mixed up and weird looking. I was messing around with it forever! Hey if anyone is Blogger savvy, I wouldn't mind some help. First I didn't skip any lines after inserting the pics, that didn't work so I skipped one line, then two, I can't stuff to line up where I want it to.
Karen - Don't worry we just get better and better with age.
Novroz - I agree. I think people forget how good Castaway is.
Joel - My 5th grade teacher took all the honor roll students on a Sunday to see Star Wars. It pays to be a smartypants sometimes!
Custard - I'm going to go check out your LONG list.
Wow thats what I call a motivational study trip!
I see lots of people bemoaning how old they are, but like Joel I'm just jealous you got to see films like STAR WARS in theatres! Sure we had the new trilogy...but that's not quite the same. Great list Colleen!
Love the cascade effect, makes me feel all floaty :D
Great list, even if we have quite different tastes. There's a lot of stuff on yours I haven't even seen, and I call myself a buff.
Great list! Glad to know someone else was in the 70's as well, I don't feel as old now. ;)
I love so many of those films on your list and so many I have yet to see.
It kills me that I was not alive in the '70s because I really, REALLY wanted to include "Blazing Saddles," "Young Frankenstein" and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" in my list!
To Joel and Tom - I know what you guys mean about Star Wars, but then again, hasn't it been put back into theaters a few times since 1977? I know I saw the updated ones in 1995 or whenever that was (of course, Tom was still only like 4 when that happened...).
As for your formatting issues, Colleen - it's all about trial and error. Go into the HTML and hit return a few times after each image. Re-publish (don't bother with their previews, which I find wonky). See how it looks. Lather, rinse, repeat. I actually wrote my post originally on a test version of my site that I have so I could get it looking just the way I wanted prior to actually posting it. Sure, it took a bit longer than doing something like just centering everything, but I think it looks nice and that's what I wanted. :)
So basically what you're saying Fletch is...I missed out on seeing STAR WARS in theatres...TWICE!
I guess I'll just have to wait until the 3D re-release in 2015. Sigh
Great list Colleen! I agree with Andy - you have a great selection to choose from! This is the one time I wish I was older and could pick "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" for 1969 :)
Ahh .... Ben! I see in 75 you chose "Mahogany"-in 76 my shortlist included a similarly themed (and lower budget) film - "Sparkle"!
Thanks Fletch! I've been messing with it, you're right the preview does not help.
I skipped school in 1985 because tickets were announced for all three Star Wars films. I had to get in line, I went to school after and said, "Um, yeah, I HAD to get those Star Wars tickets, I had no choice!" I have a giant button for it somewhere.
cinema- I remember that movie Sparkle!
Fletch: You are right. Now I remember seing the redux versions in theater of Star Wars. Still it can't be the same as seeing them for the FIRST time in the theater.
By the way I like the floating design to. Its a bit of in some places but i like it more than the super structured ones.
Great, eclectic list.
